Facebook starts giving people more control over Feed and Reels recommendations

Meta is adding ways for people to express the topics they want to see, with recommendations designed to adapt to their feedback.

The story

On 13 October 2026, Meta introduced new AI-powered controls for Facebook Feed and Reels that allow people to express interests in everyday language. Meta says recommendations can adjust based on this feedback.

This is primarily a change to the user experience, not a new promise about advertisers' reach, ranking or lead costs. Organic distribution and paid advertising remain different systems with different measurement needs.

For a local service business, a useful content strategy remains specific: demonstrate genuine work, answer common customer questions and explain how customers can enquire. Avoid treating follower counts or a short-term spike in views as proof of sales.

IFFI Media perspective

For brands, create posts that genuinely satisfy a clear audience interest. These user controls do not guarantee extra reach for a business page.

What businesses can do now

  • Focus content themes on questions real customers ask about your services.
  • Use genuine images or approved customer materials rather than fabricated before-and-after claims.
  • Review relevant engagement and qualified enquiries separately from paid campaign reporting.
