Google Ads introduces new channel prioritization and budget controls
New optional controls aim to let advertisers guide which channels receive budget first, with a gradual rollout across Google Ads campaign types.
The story
On 14 October 2026, Google introduced optional channel prioritization and budget allocation controls intended to give advertisers more choice over how spending is distributed across its inventory and partner networks.
Google describes a global rollout across Search, Shopping, Performance Max and Demand Gen. Availability can vary during a rollout, so advertisers should check their actual account rather than assuming every setting is already enabled.
For small businesses, the value is greater visibility into where budget goes. However, budget controls cannot replace a sound campaign goal, appropriate geography, honest ad copy and a landing page that explains the offer.
IFFI Media perspective
A new control is not permission to spend more. Test only where it is available, and continue to review real enquiries and approved budgets.
What businesses can do now
- Review which campaign and network settings are available in your own Google Ads account.
- Document the primary conversion you want to measure before changing allocation.
- Test one controlled change at a time and get approval before increasing client spend.
