Meta's small-business AI survey: what the findings really mean for marketers

Meta reports that 76% of surveyed small-business owners saw a positive productivity impact from AI. The study covers nine APAC markets—not the UAE—and is self-reported.

The story

On 14 October 2026, Meta released results from an online YouGov study commissioned by Meta. It surveyed 3,983 small-business owners across Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong between 6 August and 2 September 2026.

Among surveyed owners, 84% reported using AI, 76% reported a positive effect on productivity and 71% reported a positive effect on revenue or sales over the preceding year. These are respondents' reported experiences, not independently verified financial outcomes or guaranteed results from any platform.

AI uses were varied: among surveyed businesses that had used AI in the past year, respondents cited content creation or editing, local advertising and marketing, translation, and customer communication. Meta also said 86% of surveyed owners wanted more guidance on making good use of AI.

The research is relevant to the broader discussion of AI in marketing, but it is not a survey of businesses in the UAE. Meta commissioned it, and the study itself notes that results across its nine markets are not nationally representative of all small businesses. UAE business owners should not treat the reported percentages as local benchmarks.

For marketers, the more useful question is whether a specific application improves the quality of the work. AI-generated social posts still need fact-checking, brand review and appropriate rights to images. Enquiry automation needs consent-aware handling, accurate answers and a way for customers to reach a person.

IFFI Media perspective

The practical lesson isn't to promise AI-driven sales. Start with a clearly defined task, protect customer information, check output quality and measure whether the tool actually saves time or improves enquiry handling.

What businesses can do now

  • Pick one low-risk task—such as drafting service FAQs or organizing approved post ideas—and compare time and quality before and after.
  • Review AI-generated facts, offers, imagery and translations before publishing anything under your business name.
  • Use actual enquiries, response quality and saved staff time as success measures; do not copy survey percentages into performance guarantees.
  • Keep customer records and private information out of tools unless the provider and data-handling arrangement are approved.
